Working Class Heritage Tour of Downtown Edmonton
Saturday, October 17, 10:00am - 11:30pm
Stanley A.Milner Library (Downtown)
Join us for a walking tour with free booklet aids and stories of the accomplishments and trials of the workers who have built our great city
This walking tour visits places between the Milner Library and the top of Grierson Hill. Stories are told of the accomplishments and the trials of the workers who have built the city and the resulting legacies of these places and events. A free illustrated booklet aids in imagining the places that no longer exist.
Skilled people build the structures that mark the city's heritage, fulfilling our designers' visions. Building methods change with technological improvements, but the social conditions, both on the job and within our boom/bust economy, have implications for the lives of working people. This tour reveals the factors that influenced the lives of working people and their communities in our vibrant city.
Meet outside on the north plaza of the Downtown Milner Public Library (facing the LRT tracks on 102 Avenue between 99 and 100 Streets). The tour starts and ends here.

Your Story. Your City. Your Future.
After twelve weeks of civic exploration, storytelling, and creative practice, ECHOFORM's 2026 Artivism Cohort invites you to witness what they've built.
Walk through an exhibition of youth-created work: zines, visual art, storytelling installations and civic projects born from labs on belonging, climate, media literacy, democracy, health equity, global citizenship and public imagination.
Free and open to the public. All ages welcome. Refreshments and entertainment provided.
ECHOFORM acknowledges the Indigenous peoples whose lands and territories we live, gather and work upon.
From Anurika (Rika) Onyenso, Founder of ECHOFORM:
"This showcase is the culmination of twelve weeks of real work by incredible young people, work that explores belonging, justice, climate, democracy, health, identity and imagination through art and storytelling. It would mean so much to have you there to see what they've built. Come curious, come ready to listen and come celebrate what young people can do when they're given the space and trust to lead. We can't wait to share this with you."
This event is powered by Righting Relations and the HOWL Experience. For any questions or concerns, reach out to ECHOFORM at info@echoxform.org.
MATCHBOOK: Designed to be Made
Saturday, October 17, 2:00pm - 5:00pm
9570 58 Ave NW, Edmonton
Go behind the scenes at Hi Signs & discover the process of making, then put it into practice with a creation of your own!
A Custom Craft-Making Workshop by Hi Signs
What does it take to turn an idea on screen into something you can hold in your hands?
For Edmonton Design Week, step inside Hi Signs' 55,000 sq. ft. working facility for MATCHBOOK, an intimate, hands-on workshop exploring the methods behind making.
Over approximately three hours, you'll move through our shop and experience the creative process from concept to completion. Along the way, you'll see how design, printing, materials, technology, and craftsmanship come together to transform an idea into a finished object.
Then, it's your turn to make!
With guidance from the Hi Signs team, you'll create your own illuminated Matchbook lamp. Choose your graphic, move through the fabrication and assembly process, install the lighting and bring your piece to life with the flip of a switch.
The experience extends beyond the workbench. Enjoy coffee from local Piccolo Coffee Lab and bagels from Beb's Bagels while connecting with fellow design enthusiasts, exchanging ideas and sparking conversations about design, process and making.
You'll leave with a one-of-a-kind illuminated piece made by your own hands and a closer look at the method behind bringing an idea into the physical world.
Strike an idea. See what lights up.
