Edmonton Design Week presents the Canadian premiere of What Are People For?, a new documentary on strategic design pioneer Patrick Whitney, whose four decades of research, teaching, and mentorship changed how design is understood, used, and taught around the world. The film, directed by Gary Hustwit (Helvetica, Objectified, Urbanized, Rams, and the Oscar-shortlisted Eno), argues those tools matter more urgently now than ever. Following the screening, Whitney and longtime collaborator André Nogueira are joined on stage by local design leaders for a live discussion of the ideas at the center of the film.
Reciprocity by Design: A Design Salon

What does reciprocity mean in design? Drawing from Reimagine’s newly released book, Reciprocity by Design: Architecture for Indigenous Tourism, this design salon will explore the relationships, responsibilities and principles that shape the work. Through the lens of Indigenous tourism, the conversation will consider ideas of land, stewardship, hospitality, storytelling, community, ancestors and future generations, and the role design can play in supporting those relationships.
ECAMP's Sensing the City

Edmonton's history through taste, touch, sound, sight & smell. Designed by ECAMP’s Exhibit Coordinator, Marina Hulzenga, the “Sensing the City” exhibit engages with modern museum design and accessibility principles. This exhibit encourages visitors to explore the stories of Edmonton through their senses using interactive elements. The display materials were designed to be modular and flexible, and ultimately, intended to be reused and adapted in a variety of ways.

Tour Wow Lighting's showroom to see lighting applications & learn how to choose the right lighting based on price, aesthetic, and use. Join us for a one hour tour of the Wow Lighting and Controls building. We will be walking around each floor of the building in a 20-25 person group. Within the space, there are examples of various ways to use lighting in the same space, some versions of what not to do, what different color temperatures do in a space, how glare can be mitigated.
